Toto had it right. He wasn’t distracted by the smoke and spectacle of the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz. He simply tugged back the curtain to reveal what was really going on. Many writing models are distracted by plot when what really drives a story is character.
Having studied the daylights out of plot vs. character, guess what we found: Despite the plentiful pot of plot content, there’s nary been a peep about character structure. That hidden thing that everyone from Aristotle, to Ammonias, to Kant, to Piaget, to Pierce and Saussure, even McKee have felt, but not a one was able to see. With nation-wide surveys and decades of research, the path has become clear, and the secret revealed. It’s time to pull back the curtain, clear away the smoke and mirrors, and finally see what truly makes good story become great. You will never see story the same again.
From the reality of memoir to high fantasy, this groundbreaking character structure reveals the hidden elements that make or break a story. Learn the 7 essential roles that every writer must know, the effect their distribution over the course of the story has, and how these elements can predict your work’s success or failure in the marketplace. An in-depth look at stories that have stood the test of time and the long hidden configurative character structures that make strong stories. (TMA track, Cedar Room/Marriott Hotel Provo, Utah)
